“Week one focuses on your artistic identity and your positioning within the scene. Did that make you analyse your sound in any way as an artist?”
You know, we have a lot of the different sounds all mixed, which really, at least for me as a producer, interested me to combine different genres altogether and come up with something which was seeing a lot of these days with production.
So it really made me to sit back kind of and say, okay, you know what? Where do I want to be? What do I want to do? Especially on the first week when we had to pick a few tracks and follow that direction of what are we going to put together for the course. So it was really good to kind of sit back and see.
The tips that Ben gave me, it really helped to kind of sit back and think about it and then analyse it and just focus on what direction I want to go.
“Were there any modules that stood out to you throughout the course?”
I enjoyed the course overall, but one session that really stood out for me was the vocals sessions, the hooks and the vocals and how we did a deep dive of the search, the platforms to go on to look for vocals.
It was so interesting, some of the tracks that we covered became a huge hit in the house music scene and I loved finding out where the vocals came from. Hearing what it sounds like originally and what it sounds like in the track. That was really one exciting session for me.
“How important was the feedback for you?”
We all got focused so much that we missed the little things and then an outsider looks at it and tells you, Hey, how about this? What do you think about that? So it was really important and it really helped to polish the sound, the additions or suggestions they had helped the track elevate to the next level.
