What made you decide to enrol on the Creativity Unlocked programme?

I wanted to improve my sound as an artist and be able to create killer tracks that were dance floor ready. When making a track I would find myself struggling, or completely stuck at times, on a hook. It was that final piece of my track that I always knew needed to be better. Creativity Unlocked helped me streamline my creative thinking and gave me the tools to create the hooks I desired.

What other modules really stood out to you throughout the course?

The week we focused on basslines really had a massive impact on how I produce my own. I always wanted to create those techno-esque deep rumble like basslines, but never seemed to pull it off just right. With help from Dean, and him sharing some of his incredible wealth of knowledge, I can now perfect the sound I’ve always wanted. It’s became a staple in every one of my grooves. Also the week we worked on vocal samples. I recorded my own voice/lyrics and sampled it for my new track.

How happy were you with the track you made over the course of the 3 months?

I’m incredibly proud of the track I made over the 3 months with creativity unlocked. Following some final feedback from A&R King Matt Smallwood, I’m super happy to say that the track has been signed for a release on Toolroom Trax in early 2020.

How would you compare your production ability/knowledge now, compared to when you started the course?

I am streets ahead of where I was before the start of this course. I feel like two completely different producers. Pete said I had progressed 4/5 years in the last 3 months, and thats down to the teaching and hard work outside of the classroom instilled in me by the Toolroom Academy. Hearing feedback like that from someone I look up to has really inspired me.

How would you rate your tutors?

Pete & Dean were two of the best teachers I have ever had. Dean is a legendary figure in our industry, and seeing him working direct from his studio, sharing his knowledge and talent was a real privilege. Pete was available outside of the lessons as well, making time for each student with resources, feedback and answers to any questions we had. Pete & Dean are a massive part of why the Toolroom Academy has became so successful.
